1994年にNYCにてスタートしたスケートブランドSupreme。今やスケーターの枠を超え、知らない人はいないブランドに成長した。Supremeの魅力といえばサンプリング(※1)とコラボレーションのうまさではないだろうか。そのサンプリングに着目し元ネタや背景を数回に分けて紹介していきたい。
※ 1 Hip Hopにおける既存の曲を使用し新たな曲を作り出すこと。この場合は他のブランドの良いデザインを元ネタにし新たなデザインを作り出すこと。

1.Supreme×KAWS Box Logo(2011)
ニュージャージー出身でNYに拠点を置くグラフィックアーティストKAWS(本名：ブライアン・ドネリー)とSupremeのコラボレーションモデル。KAWSは元々NYの街角の広告に××マークを描き、広告を彼なりのアートに変えたその手法で有名になった。同コラボレーションは彼らしい手書き風のBoxLogoが特徴。
KAWS(Brian Donnelly) collaborated with Supreme in 2011. He become popular through drawing his signatures ×× on advertisement in NYC. This collaboration features his signatures hand drawn box logo on the front.

2.UnAmerican tee(2014)
Un Americanは、元々Josh Gosfield(ジョッシュ・ゴスフィールド)が1990年に200枚限定にてリリースしたアート、作品の一つ一つにはサインがされており、セカンドマーケットでも高値で取引されていた。Supremeがサンプリングしたのはこちらではなく、Josh Gosfieldが1990年後半にRock The Voteと協力し作成した同デザインをプリントしたTシャツだと考えられている。尚、同Tシャツは当時、政治家に向けてスピーチの自由を訴えたものであった。
UnAmerican Tee released in 2014. UnAmerican Tee is inspired by the art Censorship Is UnAmerican was which originally designed by artist Josh Gosfield in 1990 and the art was 200 limited. Later 1990 He teamed up with Rock The Vote and released T-shirts which features Censorship Is UnAmerican on the front.

3.Supreme Kate Moss Tee(2004)
Supremeが10周年を記念し発売したBox Logo Tシャツ。94年にCalvin Klein(カルバンクライン)がKate Moss(ケイト・モス)をモデルとしたコレクションを発表した、その広告宣伝の為にNYの街はケイトのポスターだらけであった。94年、Supremeは当時オープンしたばかり、同じく町中にBoxlogoのステッカーを貼って広告していた。街の中のポスターにはKateのポスターの上にSupremeのBox Logoが貼ってある物も存在し、それに対してカルバンクラインは激怒しSupremeを訴えた。10年経ちSupremeはそのオープンした当時の事件をTシャツとしてユニークに表現した。
Supreme released Kate Moss Tee in 2004 as 10th anniversary. In 94 Calvin Klein teamed with Kate Moss in a series of ad campaigns to promote the brand and new collections. Supreme had just opened their first shop in NY at the same time and their iconic red box logo stickers began to pop up on walls in NY. But few stickers began to be placed on Calvin Klein’s ad then Calvin Klein was really upset and sued supreme over the incident. So this T shirts is inspired by the moment in 94.

4.Supreme Ceramic Tray(2012)
Supremeが頻繁にリリースしているセラミックトレーの中でも印象的なアイテムの一つ。初期のSupremeはハイブランドから着想を得たBox Logo Tをリリースしていたが近年はストリートやHipHop関連のアイテムから着想を得ることが多い。同アイテムは、フランスを代表するハイブランドエルメスのアイテムを大胆に作り変えたアイテム。
Supreme has been releasing Ceramic Tray, but this model is one of the best. Supreme inspired by French brand HERMES. They re-creates Hermes ceramic tray for own style.

5.Supreme ×aNYthing Tee( 2001)
SupremeとaNYthing(エニシング)のコラボレーションTシャツ。エニシングは、元Supreme、そしてSTUSSYスタッフ,(エーロン・ボンダロフ)が2001年に設立したブランド。現在、彼はインターネットラジオKNOW WAVE(ノーウエーブ)を主催しLAとLondon、そしてNYを行き来している。彼とSupreme創設者Jamesの出会いは、ジェームスが元々働いていたUnionでエーロンが万引きをした時からだという。NY出身のブランド同士がコラボたTシャツは、同じくNY発のHIPHOPグループBEASTIE BOYSのロゴから着想を得たデザインとなっている。
This is collaboration between Supreme and aNYthing. aNything was founded in 2001 by Aaron Bondaroff who used to work at Supreme and Stussy. He is working on Internet radio KNOW WAVE now. His relationship with Supreme owner James has started when he was caught shoplifting at Union where James used to work before he started Supreme. This NY based brands collaboration is inspired by Hip Hop group Beastie Boys logo.
